Our promise
Print it once. It works forever. Pay once if you want to edit it.
We never deactivate a paid code for non-payment, because there is no ongoing payment. A code is only disabled for abuse. If we ever shut down, we will give 12 months' notice and you can export every destination.
That's the whole policy. Here's what it means in practice, and how we've built KeepQR so we can keep it.
Static codes don't depend on us at all
A free static code contains your link directly. Your phone reads it and goes straight there. There's no KeepQR server involved, so there's nothing for us to switch off. If KeepQR disappeared tomorrow, every static code ever made here would keep working.
Editable codes are paid for once
An editable code costs £4.99 once, or £19 for 10. There's no subscription, no renewal and no card kept on file. Because there's no ongoing payment, there's nothing that can lapse, and no reason for a code to stop.
If you ask for a refund within 14 days, you'll get one, and the code you made keeps working anyway.
The only reason we disable a code: abuse
We will disable a code that's used for phishing, malware, scams or anything illegal. We check destinations against Google's list of known harmful sites when you create or change a code, and anyone can report a code that's being misused. A person reviews every report. If we disable your code, we'll email you to explain why.
This protects every other customer. If our short-link address were flagged as unsafe, everyone's codes would suffer.
How we've built it to last
- Redirects depend on almost nothing. When someone scans an editable code, the server that forwards them needs only a small lookup table of short links and destinations. It doesn't call our payment provider, our email service or our main database. If any of those fail, scans still work.
- Redirects live on their own address. Scans go through
go.keepqr.co.uk, which runs separately from the website and the dashboard. We can change or fix one without touching the others. - Running costs are close to zero. KeepQR runs on Cloudflare's network, where serving a redirect costs a tiny fraction of a penny. We don't need a monthly fee from you to keep your code alive.
- You can take your data with you. From your dashboard you can export every code, short link and destination as a CSV file, at any time. You don't have to ask.
If we ever shut down
We don't plan to. But if we do, we'll email every customer and give 12 months' notice. During that time your codes keep working and you can export every destination. That gives you a full year to replace printed codes at a pace that suits you.
What "forever" doesn't cover
We'd rather be clear than oversell:
- A QR code only works if the page it points to still exists. If your website goes, the code has nowhere to send people.
- A code can't be read if it's damaged, faded, too small or printed with too little contrast. Our guide to QR codes that stop working covers these.
- A paused code shows a "temporarily unavailable" page until you resume it. That's your choice, not ours.
These promises are also written into our terms of service.
